You Tube tag: would you rather Beauty Edition as seen on Lollipop26

So I am addicted to YouTube and one of my favourite people on there is Lollipop26 who knows a lot about makeup and I really value her opinion on products. If you watch YouTube videos you should be watching Lollipop26.

Anyway I am going to do a post on the tag that she has just done.

Would you rather??

Would you rather go out with Messy hair and nice make up or nice hair and and no makeup?
Messy hair all the way... my hair is usually messy and most often by the end of the day my makeup is messy too.

Would you rather shave your eyebrows or have your eyelashes fall out?
Well since I have approx three eyelashes on one side and five on the other I would not want to loose any more of them, at least you can drawn in eyebrows.. although I know I would be the crazy lady with the mad eyebrows...

Would you rather be forced to shop only at MAC or Sephora for the rest of your lift?
Ha ha forced... well I love Sephora and even thought there is none in Ireland I would much prefer to shop there, there are so many other brands available there and skincare and magic makeup brushes (give me a minute I am daydreaming about Sephora). I only got back into Mac in the past year or two after watching a lot of YouTube videos. Most of the time I like to check out other brands.

Would you rather wear lipgloss/liner look or 80ies perm?
Well now back in the day I may have worn the lipgloss/liner look in the form of a Dublin imitation of Pamela Anderson (without the boobs or the hair)... before you judge it was actually in fashion. Some girls went as far as using brown eyeliners for their lipliner. I never went there promise.

Would you rather leave the house with an obvious foundation line or overdone blush?
Well I have a pet hate against foundation lines, probably because when I was younger my mam would rub my jaw if I had a foundation line (turning my chic sophisticated feeling into that of a snotty child in two seconds flat). I also don't like foundation lines because all us Irish girls seem to have a deep seated urge to think we are more tanned than we are and buy darker foundation. Results of too dark foundation....that feckin foundation line

Would you rather wear MC Hammer pants or Biker Shorts in public?
Well I am going to go with Biker shorts being cycling shorts... And I guess I will go with Biker Shorts.... I could wear under a tunic or dress or in fact layer them with MC Hammer pants... kinda like Spanx for the 90ies.

Would you rather have bad orange-y spray tan or really weird tan lines that cant be covered?
I hate fake tan, I hate the smell I hate the way it looks, at a push I will wear some on my legs but I hate it. I will definitely go with the weird tan lines, when I was younger I used to keep my watch on to show my tan lines.... gotta be proud when you go from off white to a little more off white.

Would you rather have a bad hair cut or a bad hair colour?
Hmmmm This is a tough one. I think I will go with colour, cause that can be fixed quick enough...even if it damages your hair....God now I realise why those girls get so upset in Americas Next top Model.

Would you rather have YouTube or Twitter taken away forever?
Well I love YouTube, it makes me greedy for things (when I see Haul videos), teaches me things...YouTube is my friend I enjoy catching up with people.

Would you rather give up using makeup brushes or mascara?
Well once again I will bring up the three eyelashes.... How can I ignore them? How could I be cruel to them? I can whack on a bit of makeup with my finger. Pin It

Health and Wellbeing & Shops from Hell

Something has been playing on my mind lately, well when I say mind I should say waist. I have been noticing over the past few months I have been veering between stress/comfort eating and dieting. I decided this week that I am going to put the fork down and get healthy.
Today I read a blogpost by the very lovely Lee of Mwah.ie http://www.mwah.ie/2010/06/curvy-girl-weight-management/ and she seems to be in a similar frame of mind.
More than weight loss I want to get healthy, I want to get mobile. I want people to be able to say things other that "your hair is nice". I am a very juicy apple shape so I would also love to reign in my tummy. I want to be more "an apple a day", than apple shaped. Like Lee I am not built to be a size 10, I like to say that I am built for comfort not for speed. I don't want to have to shop in big girl shops.
This is another reason for the post as somebody who is on the bigger side of the high street I have found some shops are friendlier to curvy lady. One shop I personally hate is Topshop, while the clothes themselves are true enough to size (this being said I tend to err on the side of jersey when I buy from Toppers) the shops never tend to have bigger than a size 12 on the shop floor, meaning you have to go cap in hand to the sales assistant. Once when in Warehouse I asked the girl for a size 14 in a t shirt ....she looked me up and down and said "we don't carry that size"..I have since renamed it Whorehouse. Or my beloved A-wear who claim to go up to a size 18 but decided willy nilly that certain items only go to a size 14 (the designers decide that certain styles should only go up to a size 14). It can be frustrating and annoying getting a shop that suits you. Have you ever have problems when a size 16 is really made for a size 12. What shops are guilty of this.
So I know what I have to do eat less and exercise more. I lost weight a couple of years ago and it was a lot easier to treat myself when times were good with a nice top or lipgloss but now I will have to get in the frame of mind that being healthy is a treat, or maybe I can shop my my own wardrobe which has a few sizes to choose from. Along with SileC I have downloaded the app Myfitnesspal to my Ipod http://www.myfitnesspal.com/ this allow you to track the ammount of calories and exercise you use daily. Its quite addictive and I hope that with this I will be able to retrain the way I think about food.
I will be excited to read every week how Lee is getting on, as somebody who managed to gain two and a half pounds on the Special K diet (I know my body is truely a miracle to science) I really want to know tips on what works for her and her readers.
This evening I decided to go for a walk and on the way I saw a three legged cat walking along, this cat was not fat as you might imagine a three legged cat would be, so I thought to myself if a three legged cat can be fit why cant I????

Shame, I will hang my head in shame

Hi,

So me and my big mouth saying I was going to do project 10 pan. Tut. Well you know yourself I was doing so well.

Anyway I was flipping through a magazine and there was a picture of MACs to the beach summer collection, before I realised it I was on the phone to BT's and they told me the collection had just come in that day. So you would think it would be quicker to say "Goodbye" but trust me I managed a "can you hold a Marine Life and Beach Bronze creme bronze for me and I will collect it later today" in a nanosecond.

Off I toddled to BT's and to be honest I thought I was going to buy more from the range but magically I showed some restraint.

On the left is Beach Bronze and the right is Marine Life
Beach Bronze is a Creme Bronzer, it has a beautiful consistency and blends really well. I apply it usually using my fingers and put a bit on my for head, down the bridge of my nose and cheeks.
Marine Life is stunning, its advertised as a highlight hmmmm. Anyway it is a beautiful coral color with light champagne along the bottom. There is a very pretty seahorse design which is covered in a light dusting of gold. When I say light, I mean light one swipe and its gone and that is literally one swipe. Its ok though the pretty seahorse stays put. (I am a sucker for a gimmick). I use the coral as a blush and honestly I haven't gone near the actual highlight part.
During my trip to BT I became convinced that I had actually reached Project Ten Pan and that I deserved these. When I got home I read my list and I had only gotten to 7 which were mostly fancy bath products. Fail of all fails. On a brighter note it seems like Marine Life sold out everywhere really quickly so if I hadnt got it there and then it would have been lost to me forever. Ah excuses excuses ,

Summer of Love

Things that I am loving right now ..... the SUN... hello sunshine where have you been?... I have missed you. Isn't it brilliant that the SUN has appeared to cheer us up during our darkest recessionary days??

Anyway down to business I received the Summer of Love Nail Kit from Urban Decay as a pressie from my BFF, usually I am not mad about expensive nail polish cause I would rather put my money elsewhere but I freakin love this set.

As you can see there are seven mini nail polishes in the set.
There is Shine on which is described as a beige sparkle and Love Light which is baby pink sparkle, these are my least favourite of the bunch they are quite sheer but still pretty.

Then there is Hashbry which is a deep purple colour and Aquarius which is electric teal. These are really lovely colours.

Now to my favourite colours Magic Bus is an "in your face" orange, Psychedelic sister a bright and beautiful coral and finally Woodstock a radioactive pink and this one is really radioactive. These three baby's are intense and beautiful and only need one coat for full coverage. I am not sure which one is my favourite.... but let me tell you this is all I will be seen in for the forthcoming sunny days. Pin It

I got Shellacked!

I got a little bit excited when (action)Mags pointed out Beaut.ie's post about Creative Nail Design's new Shellac manicure the other day. I've always fancied trying gel/acrylic nails but have been put off by the fact that they ruin your own nails. According to CND, not only does Shellac not damage your nails, it actually encourages growth as it protects the nail. All while giving you 14 days worth of lovely shiny nail polish! 'I'll have me some of that', I thought, and made an appointment with Creative Nail Academy and Spa yesterday. I'm off to Paris for the weekend so the timing was perfect for a bit of a treat. Here's the result:

Isn't it lovely? I've already put it through a few tasks: scrubbing the shower clean, washing my hair and opening a can with a ring pull, and it's still perfect. In fact those photos were taken after I had done all those things.

So I'll report back in two weeks time. Underneath that polish my nails are in bits, they're constantly splitting and peeling so I'll be really interested to see if the condition improves, but it might take a few applications of Shellac for that to happen. Anyway, so far so good. If the colour lasts without chipping, I can see myself getting addicted to fortnightly manicures, especially if they expand the colour range to include some of the greys and greens I've been mostly wearing lately.

You can read more about Shellac on Creative Academy's website and on Beaut.ie's post. Pin It

Expensive Mascaras .... are they worth it? (and possibly the worst pictures ever seen in a blog)

Ok so I may in fact be the worst blogger known to mankind. Anyway I am back for you to see another one of my faults which is taking pictures. WARNING you will see some dark circles.

Anyway, in this current crappy economic crisis I am trying to save money so one of the first things I am doing is the Project 10 Pan (or 15 pan in my case ). I will be the first to admit that during the good times I could be a bit of a makeup snob. I would have a list as long as my arm of lovely high end cosmetics that I wanted to try. Since I have the smallest, tiniest eyelashes on this planet (they are kinda curly I guess I can give them that) I am always trying something to make them look amazing (never going to happen but a girl can try). One of the mascaras that had a big buzz about it on YouTube was Fresh Supernova so when I was in America last year I had to pick it up (along with a few others - eek told you I had a problem). Anyway according to themselves it has conditioning oils that moisturise the lashes and it also thickens and lengthens. Great right??? Well it was also $25.00 (but I was in one of those.... sure that's practically only €2.00 moods). So I have been using the Fresh Supernova and I really like it, it brushes out your eyelashes and separates them making them a lovely fan of eyelashes (that you can actually see.. as opposed to my natural lashes). I was very kindly given (by SileC) the Rimmel Sexy Curves Mascara. Now old me would have been very much part of the "get what you pay for" club but Sexy Curves has changed my mind. If you need lengthening... and lets face it who doesn't... this is your baby. It really lengthens your lashes . It has a magic wand (yes it is magic) which has three nobbles on it.

So now for the evidence:
First picture is me with no makeup (eek I know DARK SHADOWS AND PUFFY EYES) and as you can see it doesn't actually look like I have any eyelashes at all.
Second Picture is me (looking quite mental, sorry I could do no better) wearing the Fresh Supernova mascara. As you can see it makes all my lashes fuller and much longer than they naturally are.
Third picture is is with Rimmel Sexy Curves... look at the length, they are not as full as the Fresh Supernova lashes but the length is impressive.

So I think I will not bother spending a ton of money on an expensive mascara and stick with the chemist. Do you have any amazing mascaras that you would recommend?

Mini Marathon '10

I have been the world's biggest couch potato for.... oh, about two years now, so last night I signed up to do the Women's Mini Marathon in the hope that actually committing myself to something might make me get up off my ass and get fit(ter) and hopefully lose a few pounds in the process.

I started my training tonight by going out for a fairly long walk and I didn't die so that's good.

I'll be crawling walking the marathon for the DSPCA - look how cute their tshirts are this year!

Project 15 Pan

Ok, here I am, My name is Mags and I am a Makeupaholic

I have been a make up glutton again (the amount of makeup I buy is in direct relation to the expanse of my waist). I have been a greedy greedy girl so I made a decision. I am doing Project 15 Pan.

You see I have been planning on doing a Project 10 Pan but I was halfway thought and the MAC Lady Gaga Came out and there was a downfall from there. So the only way to go is to do a Project 15 Pan.

I also have to do Gloss out 2010 cause once again I am a greedy lip gloss addict.

So here I am putting it out there so I cant go back on my word. I will keep you informed and let you know what I think of the products when I use them up.

So I will stop buying makeup (at this stage there is not much left for me to actually buy) and try and be healthy and see if my reduced makeup will also show a reduction in my waist.

I have a few bits and pieces that I have bought so I will keep you informed on them and I promise to tell you if I cheat...

Fingers crossed. Pin It

Urban Decay Alice in Wonderland

Urban Decay Alice in Wonderland.

So you know that I am a fan of Urban Decay, Love the vibrant colours, out there names but most of all the quality of the products. I have to say that I mostly only own their eye products and when you see something like their Book of Shadows, or Alice in Wonderland you will be immediately drawn to them.
Firstly the the design of the box is beautiful and interesting, the lid can be lifted to reveal a Alice in Wonderland scene with a mirror (quite disturbingly you can stick your face into Wonderland...have I been playing with it for too long???). Its really pretty, there is no real function to this part of the product, you wouldn't really use the mirror but it is very nice to look at.
When the drawer is pulled out there are 16 eyeshadows. The eyeshadows are really beautiful and range from neutral to vibrant. Usually with Urban Decay I dive straight into the vibrant colours as they are too hard to resist, but I have found that some of their neutrals are really beautiful and its easy to achieve a wearable everyday look with this set as well as crazy looks. Now beware there are some glittery little fellas in there. These are not new Urban Decay colours they are existing colours that have been renamed for the Alice set.
There are also two mini (but not tiny) 24/7 Glide on Pencils and a Mini Urban Decay Primer Potion. While I LOVE Urban Decays eyeshadows I ADORE their 24/7 Glide on Pencils. They are rich and creamy, they last all day but you can also smudge them out. My favourite new thing to do with them is to use them as a primer. I promise you, if you put eyeshadow on top of these it will not budge. The colours you get are Zero which is a pitch black colour and Flipside which is a rich turquoise. These are really smooth and easy to use on the waterline.
Why I love it:
The packaging is cute, it makes you reach for it and the fact that I love the shadows and they were well makes this an excellent set. To have all these colours in one set is brilliant, this is also a much more affordable way to collect a lot of colours. I am a fan of the Book of Shadows and from now on I will be buying these instead of individual shadows.
Why I don't love it:
Well its limited, so its probably gone out of the shops already, plus they didn't come up with new colours so I will have some duplicates.
If you can get your hands on this go for it, although any of the Book of Shadows are great value.
For you information the original colours are listed on the back of the packaging I will include them here for your information.
Underland (Flash) Alice (Painkiller) Oraculum (Baked) Queen (Last Call)
Chessur(Chopper)White Rabbit (Polyester Bride)Wonderland (Maui Wowie)Churrouser(Grifter)
Muchness (x) Mushroom (Mushroom) Midnight Tea Party (Midnight Cowboy Rides Again) Vorpal (S & M)
Absolem (Homegrown) Drink Me Eat Me (Sin) Mad Hatter (Twice Baked) Jabberwocky (Oil Slick)

Urban Decay Stardust Eyeshadows

Ok so it's no secret that I love makeup and I love many (many) makeup brands. One of the first high end brands I ever tried was Urban Decay so they hold a very special place in my heart. I remember the time when they had a big huge stand in BT2. Ahhh such joy. I still have very fond memories of the lip junk.

Anyway Urban Decay are a really innovative brand, they like to push the boundaries with colours and names and their products are really fun and more importantly they are quality products. Their eyeshadows are brilliant quality and have really intense pigments. More than that they always produce the most amazing shades.
Stardust eyeshadows are Urban Decay's new collection of shadows. Urban Decay say that these eyeshadows have 40% more glitter than their other shadows. Now this can be a problem for some people cause I know some of the more glittery Urban Decay shadows have a great deal of glittery fallout. (I quite like a bit of glittery fall out on my cheeks but that is just me). Urban Decay also say that these shadows sparkle and glisten.

Stardust shadows are of the same quality as other Urban Decay eyeshadows. They have a great function where you squeeze either side of the package and the lid flips open. How brilliant is that??? I love these shadows they do seem to glisten and gleam rather than have big chunky fall out. I bought the colours Diamond Dog (brown/taupe) and Atmosphere (deep turquoise) and I am loving them. My eyelids do shimmer. There are no big chunky bits of glitter. These eyeshadows can also be applied wet for a more intense colour. I did find that when you applied them wet there was a bigger chance of fallout. These colours can be used subtly or can be livened up for a more vibrant colour.
Now here is my verdict ....
Packaging: LOVE IT, in fact I have to be stopped from using the flip open packaging (really cool)
Product: LOVE LOVE IT, i think these are a really nice shadow, I love Diamond Dog its just the right colour that you can use every day or vamp it up. You don't look like a glitter ball.
Price: This makes me sad..... I bought these shadows up the north where they were priced at £13.50, in the USA they are $20.00 and in Ireland €19.00 yes feckin' euro which translates at approx $26.00. I would buy the rest of the collection no problem but I cant really spend €19.00 on each eyeshadow (ahem in this current economic climate ahem). I fear it is another case of rip off Ireland.
If you can get your grubby mitts on one of these please give them a go and let me know what you think of them.

Yes to Carrots????

Ok now this is a weird one for me, I don't really like carrots, I mean they are alright with a good dollop of hummus but I don't love them or anything, I can take them or leave them. But, and this is a big but..... I LOVE the Yes to Carrots Eye Contour Cream.

The cream (so it says on the tin) is made from spring water, organic cucmber and carrot juice and 26 dead sea minerals. The cream is light and fluffy, sinks in easily and doesn't sit on the skin. Now my strange addiction is the smell... it's lovely and fresh and well, basically clean smelling. I know it's a weird reason to like the cream, but when I put it on I feel refreshed and moisturised and clean and I think the light scent has a lot to do with that. It is one of those smells where I stick my nose in the tub and have a good sniff. Now I am a bit of a "smeller" of products and am often found with my nose between the pages of a freshly printed book....ahhhh it's like heaven.

I have tried some of the other products in the range including the Deliciously Rich Body Butter which is really really rich in fact its a little too rich, you have to rub it in but would be brilliant during the summer or if you have very dry skin (shins love it). It doesnt have that much of a scent but to be honest in such a thick cream it would be overpowering.

Carrot Rich Shower Gel is lovely and moisturising and has the lovely light scent which I am obsessed with.

I have also used (can you tell I bought a set?) the Hair Mask - this leaves your hair really soft and shiny and is a lovely treat.

All in all the range is affordable and is full of good ingredients including organic juices and dead sea minerals but more inportantly they do what they say they will. So next time you get a chance have a sniff and let me know what you think Pin It

Aussie Miracle Moist

So this cold weather is killing my hair, not exactly the weather but the hairdryer, God blessed me with a lot of hair and most of the time I dont dry it all the way through. It has been just so cold I have been over drying and the ends of my hair are suffering. I decided to try Aussie Miracle Moist and it is really nice shampoo and conditioner.

It smells really nice and leaves your hair really smooth, I have high hopes for this although it will be a real test, what with having greasy hat hair. So far its doing the job. Pin It

Jimmy Choo for H & M

Sorry for the delay with this post but I thought you might want to know about my Jimmy Choo for H & M experience.

It was a miserable wet Saturday morning in November it was windy and the rain was lashing against the window I couldn't sleep and it was not because of the rain it was because I was just about to bounce out of the bed to head into town to try and get me some bargain priced Jimmy Choos. Wooo Hooo for the Jimmy Choos.

Myself and my cohort arrived in town at twenty past seven to go to the South King Street Shop, when I got there I didn't think there was anybody around until I walked closer and there outside were the organised and quite possibly crazy few sitting right outside the shop (they had fold able chairs and flasks) and to my dread there was a queue around the corner :(. We got in the end of the queue and I sent my friend on reconnaissance to count approx how many people were in the queue.

On the website it had explained very clearly that bands would be given out in groups of twenty to the first one hundred and sixty people.

People from H & M came around to explain what would happen (and to also give 10% off for the rest of the store stock) bands were colour coded and people would be allowed 10 minutes in the special accessories area of the shop, the staff would then have 10 minutes to restock and onto the next group. When the shop opened the main clothes collection were open to all. The staff answered questions and explained that there were a lot of bags and that if we didn't get shoes we would definitely get a bag.

It was the nicest queuing experience of my life and we met some lovely people, there was great excitement and chatter about what we wanted, we had great chat and laugh and considering we were there for two hours in the cold, spirits were high. Where I was positioned in the queue it was right outside the window with the shoes and bags so that gave us tons to talk about.

At opening time all hell broke loose, by the time we turned the corner and went into the shop the clothes had been engulfed by human clothes loving locusts. It was honestly one of the scariest experiences of my life, you couldn't move, you couldn't turn. People ripped the clothes off a mannequin (you know who you were) with such force it made a security guard turn on his heels. I did my best to escape the craziness and found my friend who was in a similar state (picture rocking back and forth with hands over head). It seemed like people grabbed as much as they could and headed for the changing room - the queue for the changing room snaked around the shop.

As I had been given an allotted time I headed off for breakfast in the Metro Cafe (which I love, seriously try their rasher sambo mmmmm) where we met Redser who dropped us in.

So back to the madness, the shop was so busy we could not get up to where the shoes were. People were not moving even though most of them didn't have wrist bands, the woman who ripped the clothes off the mannequin were the talk of the queue (everybody was very mortified for them) and I could more or less see what was left, I was really sad to see the bag I had my eyes on were all gone, in fact most of the bags were gone. Finally we got up when they called our bands and in a military attack on accessories we were done and out before our allotted ten minutes. The whole time I had Redser looking through the window finding the whole thing hilarious.

The staff have to be commended, they were so nice and organised, a girl was counting down the minutes people had left so everybody was informed what was going on, when the shop got heated they brought out water, other staff were giving out sweets and all in very lovely Jimmy Choo t shirts and were in festive form.

Now for the good bits..... I got the shoes that I really wanted - they are tall (no they are really tall they are not just car to bar, they are literally car to wheelchair to bar cause car to bar is waaay to far to walk) blue cage shoes which I think are pretty much the definition of the collection (they are pictured above) and I <3>
The shoes are the same quality as "real" Jimmy Choos they have the tag on the inside with "Jimmy Choo for H & M" and are in a gorge purple box with dust cover, even the bracelets came in a beautiful purple gauze, and even the shopping bag had lovely purple ribbon handles which I swung happily all the way home.
