Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics Lip Tar in Anime

I have been after OCC Lip Tars for a while, they have been on my list. When I realised that Love Makeup stocked them and sure I was making an order anyway it would be rude not to throw one in the basket.

I went for the colour Anime which you can see is a shy and retiring type of colour... just kidding its an IN YO FACE hot pink.  The tiny amount squeezed out above is enough of this product to cover your whole lips.... Yes that's right you literally need a tiny amount and your whole lips are covered in opaque glossy colour.  The product itself is so odd but in a wonderful way its a lip stain/lipstick/lipgloss hybrid...  its the X men of Lip products.  It's quite a wonder and at £8.99 it's actually a bargain product. You will have this for a long time.  There is a minty flavour off the product so if that is going to annoy you beware, I find it mild enough but you still notice it slightly.

Even this tiny swatch stayed on my hand for a while so beware if you don't like commitment.   Have you tried any OCC Lip Tars? What do you think?

Size ain't nothing but a number.

I have to confess I have a mild addiction to buying jackets. It all started many years ago when the one coat I had was looking a bit shabby and I went searching for a new jacket but do you think I could find one to meet my smart casual needs. Since then I have been a bit like Scarlett O’Hara in Gone with the wind – I will never go jacketless again. Hence my obsession with buying any jacket that takes my fancy. Hey they are an investment as my fine array can be worn year after year, or so i tell myself.

So I was very excited when I saw my latest addition. A lovely black, padded jacket. It is super light weight but is surprisingly cosy and warm, think of a mini light duvet. The slight biker style with its buckle at the neck and mock elbow pads appeals to my inner rock chick and the cosyness appeals to …well my need to be cosy, I am a cold creature and like to be prepared in these Irish summers.

There is one thing that puzzles me about this jacket, and why I felt the need to blog about it. As I rummaged through the rails in H&M looking for my size, I was delighted after passing by all the 6’s and 8’s to find a 14. I tried it on and it fit comfortably, the sleeves covered my wrists and when zipped and belted I did not look like a parcel tied in the middle, in fact ( as pointed out by my shopping buddy Mags) I had enough room to wear a jumper under it if I wanted. So happily I pottered off to the till, it was only when I checked the price tag that I realised it was actually a size 18.

The 14 that I had read was the US size. I know due to recessionary times I have not been clothes shopping in a while but when did the manufacturing companies change the sizes. I am usually a 12-14, I usually get a 14 on top as I don’t like to squash the ladies ( my cup runnith over if you know what I mean). But surely I have not blossomed to an 18 ???

Well size aint nothing but a number so I bought the jacket anyway but I just wish manufacturers would have standard sizes. I am easily confused and trying to work out what size I am in different shops is just too much. I hate trying on clothes and I shouldn’t have to bring 4 sizes into the changing room with me to get the right fit.

Still love my jacket though.

Elevease, The Shower Step

This is a bit of a random one, but this is one of those beauty 'gadgets', for the want of a better word, that really makes my life a lot easier.

Photo from the Elevease Facebook page

Elevease is an ingeniously simple invention by an Irish company - it's basically a shelf that fixes into the corner of your shower,  on which you can prop up your foot to shave your legs. That's it. You can of course also use if for exfoliating, fake tanning, moisturising, etc. It also has a little dock to store your razor. Before I had this, shaving my legs in the shower was a very hit & miss operation. It's not much of an issue if your shower is in the bath, but mine is just a shower stall with absolutely no where to prop up my leg, bar the wall, and that's just dangerous. No one wants to put their back out and be found lying naked and goose-bumped on the bathroom floor with half shaved legs.

Elevease in situ in my shower
The shelf comes in white and chrome finishes, priced from €19.99, and you just glue it to the wall in your shower at knee-height with the provided adhesive. I ordered mine online but there are also nationwide stockists.

Bourjois Délice de Soleil Bronzing Powder

Mags was in Wales for college this past week and she very kindly brought me back some goodies from the UK (more on that later), including this bronzing powder from Bourjois which I had been on the lookout for since I saw a few YouTubers talking about it.

Délice de Soleil Bronzing Powder is part of a collection of new bronzing products from Bourjois and the main thing that attracted me to it was the 360 degree rotating mirror - how cool is that?!

This is available in two shades, and I have the lighter of the two, No.12 for fair/medium skin. It contains cocoa bean and orange blossom extract as well as SPF 15. The powder has great colour payoff and an almost creamy consistency, which makes it really easy to blend. There's no glitter or shimmer in this, so it could be used for contouring. That fact also means that it gives a lovely natural tanned look. The little brush that comes with it isn't great (when are they ever?) but it's usable in a pinch - it'll just require more work than using your usual bronzer/blusher brush.

Heavy swatch on the right, lighter blended out swatch on the left.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think this is available in Ireland yet. I'm not sure what Bourjois are like on the aul Sterling to Euro pricing but it costs £8.99 in the UK so probably about €12 or €14 when we do get it. If you're in the market for a bronzer, I'd totally recommend it.

Favourite sheer lipstick swatches

Mags is a champion of bright lipstick and it looks great on her. My lips are uneven and for me to get a good result with a bright, bold lipstick, I'd have to spend a lot of quality time with concealer and lip liner in the mornings and to be honest I just don't have the time or the patience. I'd probably have to blow my nose five minutes later and wreck the whole thing. I also get the feeling that I look like The Joker when I wear red lipstick.

So, I tend to favour sheer and/or nude lipsticks. These are my favourites. Cue some pics of swatches on my big freckly hand!

From left to right and top to bottom: 17 Mirror Shine in Flirtini, Peace, and Bee-Hive (Bee-Hive is quite a good dupe for MAC Hue)

Left to right and top to bottom: MAC in (a very well loved) Cute-ster from the Hello Kitty Collection, Marquise D' from the Wonder Woman Collection, and Hue.

Left to right: Chanel Rouge Coco Shine in Boy and Romance

No.7 Sheer Temptation in Pretty Please. This is a new purchase. I read about these lipsticks and thought they might be good dupes for Chanel's Rouge Coco Shines, and if this one is anything to go by, I actually prefer them. Look how shiny it is! Like a cross between lipstick and lipgloss.

If you have any sheer lipstick recommendations for me, leave them in the comments please!

Product Rave: Batiste Dry Shampoo XXL Volume

I was having a mooch around Boots on Saturday during my lunch break, looking for a dry shampoo to give my hair a bit of a lift. I didn't have time to wash it before work that morning, and I was heading to Croke Park to see That That straight from work. My hair was just really flat. And Take That called for Big Hair.

I had tried Umberto Giannini's 'Backcomb in a Bottle' before, seduced by the name, because that's exactly what I was after. To be honest though, it was a bit crap & just left my hair kinda wet and sticky, and not looking particularly backcombed.

I spied this product - Batiste Dry Shampoo Big & Bouncy XXL Volume

Now, if we're talking backcomb in a bottle, this stuff is the real deal. A quick spray into the roots, massage it in and... voila, big hair! It even smells nice. You will have hair with the texture of a nest the next morning, but it can be brushed out somewhat, and is obviously really easy to wash out anyway.

If you're after big hair, or the texture of backcombed hair to make it easier to do an up do, I would totally recommend this.  It cost me €5.19 in Boots for a 200ml can (bigger than the normal Batiste cans).

NOTD: Sally Hansen Shrimply Devine

A lot of the beauty bloggers have been talking about the new Sally Hansen Complete Salon Manicure nail varnishes, so I was delighted when Sile found them in Boots Liffey Valley and got me the very pretty Shrimply Devine.  I am so impressed with this polish, it is opaque in two coats and it a very pretty summer colour.  The nail polish leaves a lovely glossy finish.

Nars the Multiple, Laguna

I decided to stop buying makeup for lent, it was really a money saving exercise more that anything spiritual and I have to say it was as difficult as giving up any addiction.  After lent was over I went to Brown Thomas where they had the new Nars Summer Collection, I had one of those blurry moments where I couldn't remember what happened but the next moment my gift voucher and a good deal of cash were gone and I was left in a slightly euphoric state with a small bag of make up.  I literally got a little high.  One of the products that I bought was Nars the Multiple in Laguna which is "new" and as far as I know "Limited Edition" (both statements that set my make up addiction off the charts).

Ahhh what a beautiful colour, it looks all exotic and pretty.  I love the easy application of this product I literally swipe this (Adam Ant style) across my cheeks and lash a bit on my forehead concentrating along the hairline for that authentic sun kissed look.  When I originally swatched this I thought that it would be a bit too dark for my skin, I am not a fan of fake tan (but I love a bit of bronzer) and I didn't want this to look too fake.

As you can see this blends out really easily to a nice shimmery bronze, it would look absolutely perfect if the sun would shine a little.  It is a lovely product to use and it will last ages, I have a few of the Multiples and this one is the creamiest.

So whats the damage?  This cost €41.00 in Brown Thomas.... steep I know but I do think it is a product I would repurchase.  You can also buy Nars products from ASOS and it costs £29 here which is about €33.00 (I think you get a better deal going through Sterling as if you pick Euro it costs €37.18) the fact that ASOS offer free delivery to Ireland and often have money off codes make this a tempting option. Space NK also sell Nars and have a new loyalty card.

Review: The Body Shop Nutriganics Softening Cleansing Gel

I must confess that before I bought this, it had been at least ten years since I bought something in the Body Shop. However, I've been loving hot cloth type cleansers like Eve Lom's Cleanser, Soap and Glory's The Fab Pore and Liz Earle's Cleanse and Polish, so I was really interested when I saw a review of this new Body Shop Cleanser on Beaut.ie. The Body Shop's version is all kinds of organic and ethical, containing 99% natural ingredients and Fair Trade sourced products. But is it any good?

My skin was in fairly shoddy condition last month after a prolonged series of breakouts which I was trying to combat with fairly heavy duty salicylic acid products, including the Garnier Pure Active Exfo-Brusher Wash which basically smells like Jif (Cif but it'll always be Jif in our house). This is very effective at drying up spots and getting rid of blemishes which is great and all, but didn't do much for the dry skin on my cheeks - seriously, how can you have dry flaky skin and big angry spots at the same time?! The hack of me.

I bought this in the hope that it would balance out my skin and I have to say it has worked extremely well. It is a gel to oil cleanser, so you apply it to dry skin, and as you massage it in, it turns into an oil. It can be rinsed off, or I remove it with a muslin cloth (I get mine in the Dunnes baby department). I find it gentle enough to rub over my eyes to remove the bulk of my eye make-up. This smells gorgeous, as you can probably imagine from the ingredients list below, and it feels like you're giving your skin a proper treat. I would have been quite lazy when it came to removing make-up but I actually look forward to doing it with this product!

This is €13.60 for 100 mls. While I was buying it, I also got one of the Body Shop's rewards cards which gives you 10% off your purchases for a year, as well as free products when you've collected so many stamps (you get a stamp for each purchase). Does anyone else have one of these? Bit worried cause I only noticed afterwards that mine says it's only valid in UK stores... hmmm.

Anyway, I would definitely repurchase this cleanser and I also have my eye on Honey Bronze Bronzing Gel for Face after I saw Ruth Crilly apply it in one of her videos, but is there anything else from the Body Shop you would recommend? Wanna get some use out of my rewards card!

NOTD China Glaze Pink Voltage Neon

Nails of the day today are by China Glaze, I had always bought China Glaze on ebay until some Beauty Bloggers told me that it was available in Sally's Beauty Supply in Dublin.  This was the recessiontastic €6.99.  This is actually not showing up as vibrant in the photos, its ultra vibrant and really pretty.  It finishes matt which I always find a bit weird so I later applied a topcoat.

Five Missing Beauty Habits Tag

Although I am a beauty junkie I have noticed that there are some parts of a beauty routine that I just skip altogether, its not that I don't need to do them, they just slip my mind.  I find this kinda funny cause I will spend ages faffing around with eyeliner and the like but I am forgetting some basic steps.  So here they are the five beauty habits I forget

  • eye cream - I have dark circles, I have bags so I have no excuse for forgetting to do this
  • moisturise my neck - again why don't I do this all the time?? doesn't the neck age first? I have to start doing this
  • moisturise my lips - they are dry in winter they are awful, I have lip treatment in my bag and beside my bed
  • moisturise hands - I have noticed from my pictures on here that they are looking a little dry and along with the hands can age if we don't take care of them, I have hand cream at the sink, beside my bed, in my purse, on my desk in work, how many times do I use it a day ?? eemmm none
  • feet - I only tend to moisturise my feet if they are extra dry, I should be doing this every day or else they will turn into hoofs
From now on I am going to make a conscious effort to do all my missed steps.   I think it will be fun to do a bit of a tag...What are the areas of your body that you forget about?  What are your five missing beauty habits?  If you want you could do this as a tag or just comment below. Pin It

Catrice Lipstick

Have you ever gotten something into your head, you're not quite sure where it came from but it has been floating around there for a while?  I think may be all the talk of Orange being "the" colour of Spring/Summer 2011 but I got it into my head that I wanted an orange lipstick and I didnt want to fork out on MAC's Morange.  I was going to go with Barry M (as it is my new BFF in the bargain makeup stakes) but after a conversation on Twitter with Claire  I thought I would check out Catrice.

Fancy or what??  I happen to think that these look very swish and high end, the have a nice click when you close them too which is always nice.  For me they win the award of best budget beauty lipstick package.

I got the Ultimate Colour in 060 Oh Juicy! and 050 Princess Peach.

Oh Juicy has a little more colour in it and Princess Peach is about as close to a nude as I can or want to go.  They are creamy and comfortable on the lips.  There is a slight fragrance to the lipsticks that may annoy some people but it rather reminds me or high end brands.  So what was the damage?? €4.99. Brilliant price and since Catrice is stocked in Dunnes and Penney's you can throw it in with the shopping.

Laura Mercier Eye Basics in Wheat - Euro is prime for rip off

You may remember a couple of weeks ago I bought quite a few Laura Mercier items.  I have seen a few YouTube videos where people have talked about the Eye Basics in Wheat.  Eye Basics are eye primers that you can get in a number of colours.

When I was getting my makeup done the girl used "Wheat" and I was delighted because that is the one that I had heard about.  As you can see on my skin it basically looks like a concealer.

Blended out there is a slight sheen, I have been wearing this every day since I bought it.  I have been enjoying using it and it does exactly what it is supposed to.  The other day I checked my receipt and saw that the price of this was €30.00. THIRTY FREAKING EURO FOR AN EYE PRIMER.  I couldn't believe it.  Why did I pay that much for a primer, I mean its a nice primer but THIRTY EURO.  Laura Mercier should wear a balaclava and a shotgun - daylight robbery-.  I decided to have a little look on the Laura Mercier website to see if she did indeed wear a balaclava (she doesn't) and noticed that the Eye Basics are $24.00 hmmmm so that would convert to about €17.00 even with our outrageous sales tax it should probably at most be about €20.00, so why are we being charged €30.00??  I do want to support Irish Shops but when the prices are this high I just can not.  I understand that this is probably a Euro wide price but it drives me BONKERS that we are getting ripped off all the time.  Laura Mercier I bid you adieu.

Do any companies drive you mad with their pricing, Is Euro the worst zone to be in price wise... Lets talk this out..
