Shellac DIY Removal

Although the salon where I had my Shellac manicure done offered free removal, I couldn't be bothered to go back there to get it done and decided to do it DIY style instead. Here's what I did:

The tools:
  • Pure acetone - I got this one for €3.95 in Terri Sales
  • Cotton pads
  • Tin foil
  • Orange sticks (I didn't actually use them but in hindsight it would have been good to have them)

The steps:
  • Tear off ten pieces of tin foil, each big enough to wrap around your finger tip.
  • Soak a cotton pad in acetone, apply it over your nail and wrap that finger in tinfoil. Do the same for all ten nails. Your hand should then look like this...
Why do I always look like I have big man hands in all these pics?
  • Leave it on for about ten minutes, then pull off each foil wrap, applying pressure to the nail as you do so.
  • What you're left with on the nail is soft, crumbly nail polish that comes off really easy when rubbed/scraped lightly with an orange stick (or in my case, a nail off my other hand). And that's it!

I applied some CND Solar Oil afterwards. I have never had Shellac removed in a salon, so I can't say whether or not you would get a better result, but I'm pretty satisfied with this method - it was easy, fairly quick and it didn't cause any damage to my nails. Pin It
