The Body Shop - Destination Christmas Gifts

So who is up for a bit of last minute shopping ?  If so The Body Shop is The Destination for Christmas Gift.  For years I had a relation who bought be sets from the Body Shop for Christmas although it was a tad predictable I have to admit that I used all the products.
For the past couple of years The Body Shop have kicked up their Christmas gift sets to just about the cutest out there.  Not only are you guaranteed some of the Body Shops classic products as well as limited edition Christmas scents they also come in the cutest gift packaging (and FYI from the sales of their Christmas sets The Body Shop are donating £200,000 to build schools in their Fair Trade Areas).

First up to show you I have a White Musk* set which comes with 30mls of the classic scent as well as body lotion and body mist all for €39.95.  The set comes in a beautiful purple heart which is cute enough that you don't have to wrap it (feeling lazy).
Can we just take a look at this cuteness :) its a Snowman Shea Scrub & Soften Gift Set*  awww its just adorable.  The set has a full size Shea Body Butter and a 50ml scrub all for €25.95.

If you don't fancy picking up a set for somebody (although if you don't think the Snowman set or the even cuter Ginger Sparkle Ginger man set are adorable there is something wrong with you) you could always pick up my favourite body product for winter and that is the Ginger Sparkle Body butter.  The Body Shop have a whole range of Ginger Sparkle products mmmmm and they smell like Christmas.  I am obsessed with the Ginger Sparkle scent its warm and cosy without being overpowering.
I hope your last minute Christmas shopping goes well. Pin It

Stila Winter 2013 Collection

Sorry for being very bad bloggers of late, while we have been very bad about blogging we have managed to put up a couple of videos on Youtube.  I happen to love a good You Tube video so I hope you like our little offerings.  They really are just me chatting about makeup so if you like that kinda thing check out my video on Stila's Winter Collection 2013.

In case you don't want to watch the video Ill give you a little run down on what I bought from the collection

First up I bought the Stay All Day Vinyl Lip Gloss in the colour Fuchsia Vinyl.  While Stila's other offering of Stay All Day lip colour offer long lasting and vibrant colour they were on the drying side where the Vinyl give you that high gloss almost plastic (but in a good way) look.  They are long lasting but sticky as you cant really achieve such a high seen look without a bit of stick so be careful of these bad boys getting on your teeth. I happen to really like the intense shine that these give and although Fuchsia Vinyl is a shade like nothing I have I really like it (although it would not be an everyday shade for me).  As the high intense shine wears off your left with almost a stain of the colour so while the vinyl look might not stay all day (but it does stick around - sorry pardon the pun for a long time) the colour is left on your lips and I am a big fan of the effect.  The lip gloss costs £18.00 and since the video I have picked up the shade Melon Vinyl.

One of the reasons I love Stila (besides them making me look pretty and helping my skin look flawless and having pretty products) are they are very innovative with their makeup products as see my their Magnificent Metal Foil Eye shadows.  Now if you look at the video you will see that I am a little conflicted about the product.  So lets discuss: They really are unlike anything I have seen before, its not a metal colour or shade its like metal on your eyes.  Only a tiny amount of product is required for intense, fantastic colour.  You also get a tiny mixing potion with the shadow which also transforms the shadow into a even more foiled look. Again you only need a tiny amount of this, in fact if you pack on this product it can clump up so be careful in your creases.  You don't get tons of product in the packaging but a tiny amount will do and my advice would be to avoid the creases.   I really haven't seen anything quite like this on the market and once you swatch it you will want one.  I am conflicted about this product for one reason: Its expensive, very expensive €44 eeks.  I know.  In the video I show you Comex Gold and since then I have picked up Stila's classic shade Kitten but I did wait til there was a discount evening in Harvey Nicks.  Initially we only had a couple of shades to try in Ireland and the UK Stila seem to have gotten all 9 shades in stock (and dam if they are not all stunners).

I am still conflicted by the Magnificent Shadows they truly are magnificent (if in doubt swatch them, guarantee you will fall in love) and I am a little scared to see that now have the emerald and black gold shade in stock because they are amazing.  In saying that the price does make me draw breath and freak out a little.

Stila is available from Harvey Nicks Dublin (the girls there are lovely),, Cara Pharmacy Sligo and online from Brown Thomas.  That's right you can now collect your Brown Thomas loyalty points and shop for Stila at the same time (click here).  This makes me very happy indeed.

Christmas Beauty Gift Guide - €30+

I'm kinda delighted with myself right now it has to be said - only the 7th of December and I have almost all of my Christmas shopping done. Unheard of! If you are heading out shopping this weekend though, here are some of the things that have caught my eye, beauty-wise, out and about in the shops and online. This guide is for the lucky mammies, sisters, friends, aunties, sisters-in-law, etc. that you may have a little more to spend on :-)

Sometimes with beauty gift sets you get a couple of dud items you're not bothered with. Not the case here as far as I'm concerned - this set is all killer and no filler, containing They're Real Mascara, the Porefessional Primer and High Beam (all full size) along with a mini Coralista Ultra Plush Lip Gloss. Benefit always do gifts well but they've outdone themselves this year with this reusable tea-caddy style tin packaging.

Beauty Junkies need no introduction to these excellent-quality brushes. Anyone who loves make up or who's just getting started with make up would love to find this set in their stocking.

It might seem a bit crazy to buy someone a single eyeshadow as a present, and especially crazy to spend €44.00 on one eyeshadow (I still haven't brought myself to do it). However, if you're buying for a bonafide beauty obsessive, they will absolutely appreciate one of these beauties.

Nothing like some luxe new make up at Christmas and this compact is totally gorgeous. The highlighter is definitely on the glittery side but if you can't wear glitter at Christmas, when can you? I plan on plastering it all over my face.

If you were to buy the products in this set separately, they would set you back €94 so this set is actually great value if you're in the market for some spendy face masks. Glamglow has a bit of a cult following at this stage and this would be a perfect gift  for a friend or sister who is serious about their skin care.

Bliss body butters are probably my favourite body moisturisers of all time - they sink in so quickly with no tackiness whatsoever and they smell amazing. The blood orange and white pepper scent contained in this set is the best one I think - Christmassy and wintery but so refreshing at the same time.

This beautifully packaged set contains Nuxe's stand out product Huile Prodigieuse as well as full size Creme Prodigieuse eye and face cream. Deadly value, and these products will see your giftee's skin through the trials of winter.

I don't know any woman who wouldn't like to receive a little (or large!) black and cream box from Jo Malone this Christmas - there's a reason why there's a never-ending queue of men at the counter in BT on Christmas Eve. You could pretty much substitute any Jo Malone product here!

Just one from a great range of sets Clarins have out this year, this contains Hydra Quench Cream (50ml), Hydra Quench Intensive Serum (15ml), and Hydra Quench Cream-Mask (15ml) in a classy looking cosmetic bag.

How are you getting on with your Christmas shopping? All done? Or are you a Last Minute Lizzy like I usually am?

Bourjois - freakin' awesome Gift with Purchase

Bourjois is one of our favorite brands from the chemist/drugstore. Last week we spoke about the Color Edition 24 Hour Cream Eye Shadows (here), Or Desir being a pretty good dupe for Stila Kitten Smudge Pot.

At the moment Bourjois have a great offer on in Boots - spend €20 on products and get this rather beautiful gift set worth €40 free.  These are all full sized products so it's a great deal.  I happen to think this would make a fab Christmas gift and it's all the makeup you need for a Christmas party look.

Bourjois Color Edition 24 H Cream Eyeshadow

Swatches: on the left is Pétale de Glace and Or Désir is on the right.

I'm a major fan of cream eyeshadows. I love the simplicity and quickness of just using your fingers to apply a wash of colour on the lids, and it usually means you can get away without a primer as well. Always a bonus when I have about three minutes to do make up in the mornings (my snooze button gets a lot of use).

I've been a long time user of Benefit's Creaseless Cream shadows and Bobbi Brown's Long-Wear Cream Shadows but it's great to have more choice and more affordable options now that the 'drugstore' brands are getting in on the cream eyeshadow action. Bourjois is the latest to join the club with their Color Edition 24H  cream eyeshadows.*

Available in six shades, we have two of them to show you today, Pétale de Glace, a kind of dusky, silvery pink and the golden Or Désir. The smooth texture of these reminds me a lot of Chanel's Illusion D'Ombre shadows, although these are a little firmer. The formula is cream to powder and true to their word, they set to a powder finish pretty soon after they make contact with the skin. These particular shades aren't hugely pigmented when applied to the lids, but the colour is buildable and they deliver a lovely shimmery iridescent effect which I really like. Bourjois promise 24 hours of wear - I don't know about that, but I did get a good 8 hours of creaseless wear, without using a primer. Not bad in my book! These are €8.99 each, and available now.

Ulta Shopping

I know, I will hang my head in shame - last week's videos were not all the makeup I bought when I was away, I also went to Ulta.  Here is a video on what I picked up.  If you would like to see more on any of the products mentioned just leave a comment.

Apologies if my face is literally in your face (I am still learning).  I hope you enjoy.

Sephora Shopping Spree

How could I venture to America and not visit Sephora ? You're right I could not do such a thing.  My plan was to only pick up products that we can not get our hands on over here, so the likes of Josie Maran, Tarte, Marc Jacobs.

I filmed a video (actually it's two videos - what can I say, I'm a talker) so click below.

I will be trying these in great detail over the next couple of weeks and let you know how I get on.  If there is anything you would specifically like to see let me know.

Hope you like the videos. Pin It

I went shopping and here is what I got. Tra la la la (I guess you could call it a Drugstore Haul)

I went, I shopped, I coughed a lot.  That's right I am back from my holidays and over my lurgy (it was at Walking Dead levels of lurgy - I actually thought I had developed some abs through coughing).  I thought you would like to see what I picked up in the drugstore (I have to say it was mostly actual drugs) and Target and Walmart and Bath and Body Works.

I decided to film a video, the quality is a bit better which is great for the products but also makes me think I need a cloaking device of some sort - who really needs high definition anyway? certainly not my pores.

Enjoy the video and if you want to know more about the products let me know and I can take pictures and swatches.

Blake Lively - Spokesperson for L'Oreal

So you have probably been hiding under a rock (a very cold rock - isn't it chilly out there) if you haven't heard the new that Blake Lively is the new spokesperson for L'Oreal.  Sorry if I am late to the game with this post I have been suffering from the lurgy and feeling very sorry for myself but this news cheers me right up.

I will be the first to admit I was a fan of Gossip Girl and my favorite character was 100% Blair, as a character she was much better fun that Serena.  In many ways for me Serena (and somewhat Blake Lively) is my female equivalent of David Beckham - Almost perfect human form, amazing figure, stunning face, great style but you don't have to talk (in fact Serena used to ruin it for me when she opened her mouth).

I love Blake's style she can go from Hollywood Glamour to Boho in a blink of an eye and more importantly none of the styles look fake on her, she looks like herself.  I love her style and I kinda want to be her in the film Savages (except for the messy love life and getting kidnapped and possibly a few other things that happen in the film).  Of course I love her makeup she is a fan of the bright lip (like myself), Hollywood glamour (usually I go for that look on a Wednesday) but also does lovely natural looks which I am very excited about trying to recreate.

I not only have a bit of a style crush on Blake I also am in awe of her figure and if I am being honest I have saved pictures of her on my phone in a bid at deterring me from eating rubbish.  I love that she looks healthy and toned but the shape of a woman.  Should we talk about the hair?  I almost cant talk about the hair, she looks like she just arrives and her hair is perfect and easy and soft ( I am a fan of hair that you can run your fingers through).  She has to be number one choice for promoting hair products.
In a way myself and Blake are very alike which is another reason I am excited by this news - practically twins really... here is my evidence

Blake Lively's husband is Ryan Reynolds  - Ryan Reynold's is one of my (many) fantasy celebrity husbands

Blake Lively has amazing blonde hair - I also have is blonde
Blake Lively is in fantastic shape, she has a perfect figure healthy and toned - I have a shape (round)
Blake Lively has amazing long toned legs that thousands want - I have short footballer legs, that footballers want (maybe)
Blake Lively has great style envied by many - I have my own unique style envied by the Minions from Despicable me
Blake Lively likes to bake - I buy the chilled cookie dough and sometimes it makes it into the oven
Blake Lively looks great in hats - I have a hat (I don't wear it)
Blake Lively had a nose job - I need a nose job (but happen to think that imperfections make us interesting).

See total twins

You might think less of me for admitting this but if I see a celebrity look (makeup more than clothes) and I like it I will try and recreate it.  If I see something I love I will try and hunt down the product. I don't think I am alone in this and I cant wait to see the products and the advertisement's that L'Oreal are going to use with Blake - I will be sucked in (I am the Marketing dream) and want to own what Blake is rocking, cause lets face it she will be rocking whatever look she is wearing.

OK I think your getting I have a girl crush.  Does anybody else buy products cause they see a celebrity using them? Is anybody else excited about Blake?

3 Beauty Products we Really Rate

Back in August, Frillseeker's Kirstie very kindly asked us to contribute to a piece for Frillseeker on products that Irish beauty bloggers really rate. The brief asked us to pick three items, so Mags and I decided that they had to be products that we both agreed on, which was actually quite difficult! So we deliberated and sent emails back and forth and wrote a short piece about it and then didn't email it to Kirstie. I thought Mags was doing it and she thought I was doing it.

Doh, worst bloggers eva.

Anyway, rather than let it go to waste, here it is: 3 products both of us really rate :-)

We are huge fans of NYC Cosmetics - their products have shown us that you can get some really good affordable cosmetics. These tinted balms will cost you less than a latte and are handbag essentials as far as we`re concerned. How cute is the apple shaped core?

Orofluido is a pretty amazing hair oil, it's like Moroccan Oil but more affordable and it lasts forever. We always have a bottle of this on hand  - it minimises spilt ends, speeds up hair drying time and leaves a subtle fragrance in the hair. Sure what more could you want.

Clarins Instant Eye Make Up Remover
If you had told us that we would be spending €20+ on eye make up remover, we would have said you were crazy but we have really taken to this Clarins offering. Removes the heaviest eye make up effortlessly with no rubbing or dragging. It even takes off Benefit`s They`re Real mascara which, if you've ever used it, will agree is no easy feat.

Lancome Advanced Genifique

My name is Mags and I am somewhat of a peter pan type character, I am immature ill admit it and I think that that laughing keeps you young.  In saying that I am merging into the Maggie May from the Rod Stewart song - yeah unfortunately "the morning sun when its in my face really shows my age" definitely around my eyes which is a bummer cause nobody wants a wrinkly Peter Pan.

This wilting fairy thought that Advanced Genifique* sounded like the kinda fairy dust that will sort out some fine lines and return a youthful glow to my face.

So I can talk about the science (Advanced Genifique has 40% more active ingredients than original Genifique - it works by copying your skins genes and how they replicate and rejuvenate.  There are also  ingredients like Adenosine which improves the structure of the skin, Yeast Extract and Vitamin CG but I am going to start veering towards Leaving Cert Biology if I keep talking about it).

Right I am not going to blind you with science because quite frankly I will just end up confused but what I do want to talk to you about is how Advanced Genifique actually works.  You dispense the product from a fancy little dropper.  I put the milky serum on the back of my hand and would apply it in upwards motions over my face.  Because we actually had a summer this year I noticed that my hand had picked up some colour, it was brown and dried out and basically looked a little old.  After I applied the serum to my face I would rub the back of my hands against each other so as not to waste any of the precious product.  After about 2 weeks I noticed that my hand returned to normal and looked healthy and young again - it suprised me how soft and healthy my hands looked (I had not used any other product on my hands).  So it might sound a little weird but I noticed the effects of the serum on my hands before I noticed on my face.

On my face I noticed that the laughter lines which spread from my eyes to the top of my cheeks had minimised (I still have lines at my eyes but I guess Lancome need and Advanced Genifique eye cream for me).  I have been using Advanced Genifique all summer and its probably one of the only skincare products I have used constantly.  While its not going to give you a face lift in a bottle Advanced Genifique is a little bottle of magical potion.  I am feeling a little more like my normal Peter Pan self.
Most of the time I felt that the serum on its own was enough moisturiser for my combination skin especially during the summer months when my skin was acting up, for a bit of added sun protection during the summer months I was also using Lancome's UV Expert GN Sheild which has SPF 50.

Advanced Genifique is available now and costs €73.00 which is a massive investment so I would pick it up when there is a gift with purchase or some other special offer on - everybody loves a gift with purchase.

Sleek I-Divine Vintage Romance Palette

Sleek make great and affordable eye shadow palettes and their new offering the Vintage Romance Palette* is absolutely beautiful.  This palette has already featured in my September favourites. It is so pretty and like all Sleek palettes, has soft buttery shadows that are highly pigmented.

The palette has 12 shadows, the top row featuring some of the prettiest wearable colours and the shade at the top right I have used as a blush.  The bottom row is the "party row" featuring a range of pretty purples and shades that will add drama to any look and will be perfect for the Christmas Party season (oops I just said Christmas).  Speaking of Christmas I think this would make a perfect Christmas present (I have just the person in mind).

The colours are all named after cities which is a cute feature.  My favourite colours have been Meet in Madrid, Court in Cannes and Lust in LA which is my hands down soft favourite antique gold shade.

My Favourite shade from the bottom row is Bliss in Barcelona. It has almost a duo toned effect and I have been using it as a liner with neutral eyes.

During the Summer I wasn't using eyeshadow - I was sticking with eye shadow sticks but the Sleek Vintage Romance Palette is so pretty it has tempted me back into eye shadow.  Although, I haven't been breaking out the party shades just yet but they will look stunning on the eyes.  Since I have been kind of lazy lately with my eye shadows I have been sticking to simple looks.

I think what is most amazing about Sleek Palettes is the price - €9.99 - yep for less than a tenner you get 12 eyeshadows.  I think it' s phenomenal value.  Sleek is available from Cloud 10 Beauty (here). You know that we are huge fans of Cloud 10 - last order I made I got a free travel size Sigma brush, how brilliant is that? Keep an eye out for special offers and discounts.

So Sleek Vintage Romance - You likey? Pin It

Dr Ceuticals Firm & Sculpt Arm Gel

For me, if I was to swap body parts with Jennifer Aniston I wouldn't go with the hair (although her hair is fab and I do tend to veer towards a similar colour). I know its a shocker, but what I really envy about Jennifer Aniston is her arms.  Man that lady has some fab arms, they are toned and sleek but most importantly they are feminine.  Sweet baby Jesus some muscly women's arms scare the life out of me.

So when I'm doing hard arm exercises (don't laugh, sometimes I do) I repeat to myself "Jennifer Aniston Arms, this will give you Jennifer Aniston Arms" slightly unhinged but definitely a good motivator.  Of course I realise I am not going to have Jennifer Aniston arms anytime soon but I do like to take every measure to speed up the process.  As you can imagine when I heard of Dr. Ceuticals Firm & Sculpt Arm Gel* I was all over it.  A product which firms and sculpts your arms?  Count me in.

Firm & Sculpt is a gel with a slight medicinal scent and they tell you to rub the cream into your arms every morning and evening.  I can do that.  For the last couple of weeks I have been using it (so most days I manage it once, some days not at all and once or twice I have managed twice a day) and although I have not reached Jennifer Aniston arm status I have noticed a bit of an improvement.  It takes only a second to rub the gel into the skin and it absorbs very quickly, I only use this on my upper arms.

I moisturise my body every other day, I am not obsessive about it but I do like to rub some cream on my skin and if you suffer from dry skin you really should moisturise so using an arm cream is not a hassle for me.  My skin is for the most part soft but I do have problem areas.  What I have really noticed after using Firm & Sculpt is how soft my arms are - really soft.  If you suffer at all from Keratosis pilaris - those bumps on the back of your arm - I would highly recommend Firm & Sculpt Arm Gel. Although my arms didn't have bad bumps there were some there and they are all gone now.  My arms are so soft I find myself rubbing them in disbelief as if they are somebody else's arm.   Firm & Sculpt doesn't advertise that it helps KP but it definitely does.

I don't think any cream is going to drastically change the tone of your arms but if you use a product in conjunction with exercise it definitely helps.  So are my arms like Jennifer Aniston's?  Mmm... no, but they are definitely a lot prettier than before I used Firm & Sculpt.

Firm & Sculpt costs €20.39 and is available from and Boots.  Dr Ceuticals also have a Bust Boost which sounds very interesting and I will definitely give that a try and let you know how I get on.
