Summer Skin

The sun is shining and I feel like singing cheesy 80s summer hits to celebrate.  While the sun is shining I have become a little more obsessed with my skin which is usually covered and cloaked.   We are of course assuming at this point that you are all using a sun protector of some sort and not burning yourself.  During the summer or on holidays I wear very little makeup but I do like to look after my skin and these are a few of my favourite things (sing it with me) I love to use to refresh my skin.

The other day I was feeling hot and sticky in work when a woman said "You smell lovely" hmm I don't really like to wear perfume in the heat (I broke out from the heat and perfume years ago)  so the only thing I could have smelled of was my Shower Gel which was Roger and Gallet Stimulating Fresh Shower Gel in Gingembre.  Now as you know I love the fragrance Gingembre which is not a heady Christmas scent that the word ginger puts into your head.  R & G's fresh shower gel is beautifully refreshing and the gel is cooling on the skin leaving a light delicate reminder of Gingembre. The shower gel leaves you refreshed and feeling clean all day which is exactly what you want when the sun is shining.  The Gel uses Glycerin to soften, coco betaine to cleanse and Aloe Vera and Shea Butter to Moisturise without any Sulphates,  Parabens, Colourants or Soap.

For the last couple of months I have been loving Roger & Gallet Lait Des Bienfaits (€14.75)* which is a light and refreshing moisturiser which promises it offers 24 hours hydration and guess what?  It actually does.  I adore the fresh scent of Blood Orange, Violet Leaves and Ceadarwood which leaves the skin feeling and smelling bright and fresh and clean.  The fluid is light and quickly absorbed but it offers as much hydration as a body butter but without the stickiness.  The lotion has five red berries which offer antioxidant benefits, aloe Vera which is hydrating and soothing (brilliant if you have gotten a little sun), Kiwi extract which hydrates the skins cells and ginseng which stimulates the cells and helps to tone the skin.  I adore this lotion. On a regular old Irish day it quickly absorbs which is great for your shower before work and the scent is delicious but not overpowering or too strong to wear with your fragrance.  My rule for summer skin is to moisturise, moisturise, moisturise.

Want to add a bit of glitz to your shoulders? The Body Shop Shimmering Dry Oil in Golden Honey* is the perfect product.  The dry oil hydrates the skin while a delicate Golden Honey shimmer is left behind.  A little of this dry oil goes a very long way so it will last you the summer and beyond.  It has a light fragrance and if you don't have a tan it looks fab and warms up the skin - if you do have a tan its AMAZING but still subtle enough that Disco Stew wont be asking you to join him in a Disco boogie.

You can probably tell that I have a bit of a theme going on fragrance wise in the heat.  I don't want to smell like Dublin Duty Free, I want light refreshing scents and besides my body lotion and shower gel I rarely use a perfume except for a very light one or Roger & Gallet Fragranced Waters which have taken up permanent residency in my handbag at this stage (I adore the travel size bottles).

Finally to refresh the skin we have two gems first up is the rather pricey Filorga Anti Ageing Mist*, if mists were to get an award this would get five stars - it delivers such a fine mist and the bottle keeps it refreshing even on the warmest days.  Finally a day in the sun - or a day in generally - wouldn't be complete with out La Roche-Posay Thermal Spring Water.  I love to pop it in the fridge on a warm day and its the next best thing to jumping into a pool. Instant refreshment in an affordable bottle.

What are you doing to keep your cool during the heat wave?
