Rimmel Provocalips

As you know I love a vibrant lip colour my favourites are hot pink (and red coming into the winter)  its great when vibrant shades are long lasting and Rimmel Provocalips* the answer to our lipstick prayers.

There are 8 shades in the range (I have 7 here) and cost €8.49.  One end of the product has a liquid lipstick, which is vibrant and intense after one swipe.  The other end has a clear top coat which seals the product on the lips, making it more comfortable with a shine.  Since its a long lasting lip product (and boy its long lasting) the lipstick colour has a slight tackiness (which goes away when you apply the topcoat) .  Rimmel say to just re apply the topcoat/gloss during the day - there really is no need to reapply the colour.

It really is long lasting, staying on my lips over drinks and lunch - in fact you really have to remove Provocalips at the end of the day.  I have dry lips and found Provocalips very comfortable to wear.  I have of course been wearing the bright pink shade Little Minx (A LOT) and have gotten tons of compliments on it.  Sometimes when I wear bright lip products after eating or drinking I am let with very little product and a lip line of pink (embarrassing when your lip product is hella hot pink) Provocalips last and last.  After food I like to apply the topcoat.gloss to freshen the look.

From top to bottom: Make Your Move, Kiss Me You Fool, Play with Fire, Kiss Fatal, Ill Call You, Little Minx, Dare to Pink.
From left to right : Make Your Move, Kiss Me You Fool, Play with Fire, Kiss Fatal, Ill Call You, Little Minx, Dare to Pink.
Make Your Move - looks brown in the tube - I initially thought it would be a bit meh but it looks beautiful on the lips

Kiss Me You Fool - boom - you want red? you got a fantastic red.

Play with Fire,

Kiss Fatal,

Ill Call You - perfect everyday shade.

Little Minx - ahh you were always going to be my favourite, such a pretty hot pink shade

Dare to Pink - my least favourite shade a milky, nude pink.

Rimmel Provocalips will be out on the 6th October.  If you like pink you have to check out Little Minx.  I am a huge fan of Provocalips they feel great on the lips (after you apply the gloss), last for ages and come in amazing colours.  What shades would you pick up? Pin It

Space NK Haul - Nars Dual Intensity Eyeshadow Himalia and Becca Beach Tint Shimmer Souffle in Watermelon/Moonstone

For a while there beauty shopping was getting a bit Ho Hum, there were tons of amazing brands out there but they were quite hard for us Dublin girls to just pop out to the shops and pick them up. In the last couple of months Grafton Street has had a little bit of a makeup revolution first there is a rather fab beauty hall in Marks and Spencer, Brown Thomas re-opened its fabulous beauty hall with CHARLOTTE FRICKIN TILBURY and a few doors up the road we have the joy of the newly opened Space NK.

If you have never had the good fortune to visit a Space NK you need to change that fairly quickly, there is one in Belfast and its my first stop whenever I visit Belfast (who needs to visit the Titanic Museum when you have a Space NK?).  Before we had our own proper shop on Grafton Street there was a small concession in Harvey Nicks in Dundrum with a small selection of products.

When you walk into Space NK your greeted with skincare, lots of skincare.  Some are names of brands you have seen in magazines some are names you have never heard before.  The shop is split up that one side has the  "scientific" if you like skin care and the other side has the more "organic/natural skincare".  When you venture further into the shop your greeted by perfumes, hair care and at the back some fantastic beauty brands like Becca, By Terry and Kevyn Aucoin.

One of the wonderful things about Space NK is their very lovely and very well trained staff know about ALL the brands (mind boggling when you see the full range of brands on offer) so if your looking for a lipstick they are not just selling you a lipstick from a certain brand, they are looking for the best product to suit your needs.

Space NK is one of those shops that's lovely to browse in an discover new products.  I cant pass by without having a little look.  Recently I picked up two products Nars Dual Intensity Eyeshadow in Himalia and Becca Beach Tint Shimmer Souffle in Watermelon/Moonstone both on my list both costing €27.00.
I have been waiting a while to get my hands on a Becca Beach Tint Shimmer Souffle it was hard for me to pick a colour but I finally went with Watermelon/Moonstone.  Each pot contains a cheek color mixed with a highlighter shade (which smells a little fruity).  They leave a delicate highlighted shade on the cheeks.  Its very simple to use and leaves your cheeks gleaming.

I also knew that I wanted a Nars Dual Intensity Eye shadow again it was hard to pick just one but I went with a browny/taupe in the shade Himalia.  You can use these shadows wet/dry for different intensity (or dual intensity...see what they did there).  They are very pretty soft and pigmented eye shadows.  I like to wash the lid with dry colour and then go into the crease with some wet product which creates 2 different shades using the one shadow.  €27.00 is very spendy for a single eye shadow so I think I would purchase another Beach Tint quicker.

On the left is the shadow dry and on the right is the shadow wet - adding it wet adds a bit of dimension and dept to the shadow.  Very pretty either way.

I have been using both products for a very (very) simple clean looking makeup.

Don't forget when your shopping in Space NK to sign up for their N.dulge card which is their loyalty card.  I seem to have earned €5.00 off my next purchase already so it is well worth signing up. Pin It

Max Factor Gel Shine Lacquer

Polishing my nails is the one part of beauty that drives me a bit bonkers.  I paint my nails and then have to get up to do something inevitably getting a bit of fluff or hair onto my newly painted nails.  Then there is the layering of the nail polish and since I am clumsy I need to pay attention.  All this and sometimes the polish chips before the end of the day.  My main test for nail polish is washing my hair.  Nothing feels as good as scrubbing your hair with your nails but it is guaranteed to get rid of the tips of nail  polish.  For me its a lot of effort for very little payback.  Don't get me wrong I love the look of polished nails, its just I am not the most delicate creature so I ruin them before the nail polish is even set.

New to the market are Max Factor Gel Shine Lacquer* (€10.39) the bright vibrant colours alone had me intrigued.  When I first used the shades I was amazed that the majority offered full opaque cover in one coat - the less faffing around for me is always a winner- and AMAZING shine.  So far so good but if we add to the fact that I managed to wash my hair without chips DING DING DING we are onto a winner.

The cute dinky bottles which look very old Hollywood (the red shades are based on the 1950ies) and would be at home with any higher end makeup product - Max Factor have you met Charlotte?

Lets look at the shades closer
Glazed Cobalt, Lacquered Violet, Gleaming Teal,

Vivid Vermilion, Twinkling Pink, Patent Poppy,

Radiant Ruby, Sheen Merlot, Sparkling Berry - very old Hollywood and very glam.

We might need 2 coats of these to see their full beautiful colour - none the less still fabulous.

Sorry for not painting on my nails - I always think its a great way to see the true colour against skin tone - honestly how could I pick which one to use first?  I am loving the Max Factor Gel Shine Lacquers. Pin It

Redken Pillow Proof Blow Dry and Pureology Fabulous Lengths Treatment Strength Cure

I have been busy looking after my hair lately, I know that sounds like something everybody should do but to be honest with you I have masses of hair and don't really have the time.  Usually I wash my hair, tip it upside down, blow dry and hope for the best.  Lately after I wash my hair I have been applying Pureology Strength Cure Fabulous Lengths* RRP € 25 all over my hair.  Pureology as the name implies is a brand of products using natural products that are vegan and paraben free or as they say s "a brand with a sustainable vision, Pureology continually works to reduce its environmental impact through efficient production and manufacturing processes and by incorporating more environmentally preferred materials".   Fancy, the only vegan thing I know is the Hot Vegan Guy who comes into where I work and I am pretty sure he causes my hair to frizz.

I apply a few pumps of Pureology to the lengths of my hair after I wash it and wrap it back in a towel for a few minutes and then spray my hair with Redken Pillow Proof Blow Dry Express Primer* €19.20.  Pillow Proof is a duo phase product - I am not sure what it is about duo phase hair products but man they seem to work.  Pillow Proof has a slight scent to it, not pleasant like flowers more like a hair product scent - not pleasant but not as bad as perm solution or similar hair product.  To be honest with you its not bad at all and the fact that Pillow Proof works so well I ignore it.  Also there is no smell left on your hair when its dry so its something I have happy ignored because the results of Pillow Proof are so good.

I decided to really put Redken Pillow Proof to the test.  I have a lot of hair, that's an understatement I HAVE A TON OF HAIR, its long and for the most part when I am drying it I just flip it upside down and hope for the best.  Even during the summer when I try and give my hair a break from the hairdryer and put it in plats or buns I wake up 24 hours after washing it and its still wet.  I always feel it takes ages to wash my hair, sometimes its such an effort (diva hair strop).  So I thought right Redken lets see if you actually save me time drying my hair ... I will set a time challenge.  I set my phone for 3 minutes, I spent the first 3 minutes with my head flipped over doing a general dry, the next 3 minutes on the bottom section of my hair and the final 3 minutes drying the top layer of my hair.  So that is 9 minutes to dry a Sasquatch to a smooth lady.  MAN IT WORKS.  Now my hair is shorter I give my hair a general blast for 2 minutes, bottom layer for 2 minutes and top layer for 2 minutes.  That's 6 minutes for salon straight hair (I realise this is slightly OCD of me to time but I am so impressed).
The first time I used Pillow Proof I had a meeting in work and EVERYBODY kept telling me how well I looked and how nice my hair was (even my male colleagues who I am pretty sure hadn't noticed that I actually had hair before).  Most of the time I just rough dry my hair but with Pillow Proof I can really give it a Salon type finish.  I haven't tried to dry my hair into curls using Pillow Proof (I think with my masses of hair its better left to a trained professional).

So the first thing I discovered that day was... I must go into work with my hair like Crazy Cat Lady. The second and more important fact is that it doesn't have to take ages to dry and style your hair, if you have help from Pillow Proof.

If I was to repurchase one thing it would be without a doubt Pillow Proof - although I use the two products in conjunction with each other I think Pillow Proof is the product doing the heavy lifting - no only does the product work it works fast and every time I use it I get compliments on my hair.

Halle Berry Wild Essence #FragranceFriday

When you think of a celebrity fragrance you don't automatically think of Halle Berry, I think Britney or GaGa or one of the other pop princesses.  I suppose the fact that Halle is a sophisticated lady (and an X-Woman) you automatically think that if she had a fragrance it will be a more mature, sophisticated scent... and Wild Essence* is.

Halle Berry previously had a scent called Closer (read here) which I absolutely LOVED and bought a few (very affordable) gift sets for people for Christmas.  I thought they were perfect for people who loved fragrance but were perhaps a little too mature for some of the other sweeter Celebrity offerings (they tend to be very sweet don't they).

Here is what Halle has to say about Wild Essence....
The essence of a woman is in body and soul and becomes more sensual in nature”, says Halle Berry, “so with my newest fragrance I wanted to go deep into the rainforest where I could capture the primal richness of nature in an effortless scent”. “I love the idea of creating a fragrance that will allow women to connect with nature, through perfume”.

Mmm right... I imagine the rain forest smells a bit dam (maybe that just the woods in Dublin).
Like Halle's previous scent I am a fan, its very different than other Celebrity Fragrances and is also very affordable at Eau de Parfum 30ml RRP :€19.95 / £14.95

The notes of the fragrance are

Fragrance Genre: Sparkling Multi-Floral

Top: Sicilian Bergamot, Black Currant, Mandarin Zest

Mid: Freesia in Bloom, Linden Blossom, White Rose

Base: Silk Musk, White Patchouli, Sandalwood

Go and give Halle a sniff when you get a chance.

Stila Convertible Color

Since I am Stila's number one fan people ask me "What is your favourite Stila Product?"  For me its like asking what is your favourite child, as we all know secretly every parent has a favourite child (even if they don't like to admit it) and for me Convertible Colors have always held a strong place in my heart.  Adorably cute, dependable and flattering its hard not to love Convertible Colors.  Convertible Colors are one of Stila's hero products, created to be used on both the lips and cheeks (hence the name convertible) there is a reason why these have been winning beauty awards for the past 20 years.
The outside of each compact corresponds to the colour of the product, making each compact not only adorable (come on how cute are they?) but also very easy to pick a shade at a glance.  To add to the cuteness each shade is named after a flower.  Much to my delight Stila have added 5 new shades to the range.

So Stila won my heart with cute packaging but what I love most about Convertible Colors are how versatile they are.  You can use them on your cheeks and your lips, and you can achieve a very different look depending on how you apply the product.  When I apply to my cheeks I like to use my ring finger in a soft tapping motion to blend out the product.  When applying to the lips you can also apply using your ring finger for a light wash of colour or you can use a lip brush for fuller coverage.  If you fancy a glossier finish you can top of your lips with some of Stila's Lip Glaze.
Traditionally I have mostly used Convertible Colors on my cheeks, this is because my lips tend to be dry but also because personally I prefer a brighter lip.  The new shade range is vibrant and pretty and pretty much offers something for everybody.

Perfect bright shades Sweetpea and Hibiscus

For me Peach Blossom makes the perfect handbag stable, its the right amount of colour for the cheeks and a perfect shade for the lips.  Personally I don't like to carry around a lot of makeup (otherwise I tend to get carried away and end up with a suitcase rather than a handbag) so for me Peach Blossom can liven up your face while fitting in with most makeup looks.

Sweetpea, Hibiscus, Peach Blossom.
If your looking for something a little bolder and vampy Stila have you covered with the delicious Tulip and Dahlia.  As I mentioned you can apply these lightly on the lips using your ring finger or you can achieve fuller coverage by using a lip brush.

Tulip and  the vampy Dahlia.

All my pretty shades :)

For the Summer Stila have released a limited edition Convertible Color duo which has both a bronzing and highlighting shade.  Marigold has a intensely pigmented brown shade for bronzing/contouring and a light shade for highlighting.

Marigold.
Looking very smug wearing Sweetpea on both my cheeks and tapped onto my lips.

I think there is something very simple and chic about matching the cheeks and the lips, it creates a simple and flattering look.  I am not quite sure what my favorite new shade is - every day it changes - but I have mostly been reaching for Sweet-pea, Hibiscus and Peach Blossom.  I am sure that in the Autumn I will be wearing the shades Tulip and Dahlia all the time.  Stila never fail to let me down, they have reinvented their classic Convertible Colors with some pretty amazing new shades.

You can buy the whole range shade range of Convertible Colors (15 Beautiful shades) from Stila.co.uk and a selection of shades from the Stila Harvey Nicks Counter, Cara Pharmacy, Brown Thomas online and selected Sam McCauley Pharmacies.
